Dr. McConechy completed her Ph.D. in the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at the University of British Columbia, where she identified subtype-specific mutations of endometrial and ovarian cancers. She transitioned to McGill University for postdoctoral research, then to industry biotech as the Senior Manager/Principal Scientist of assay development, leading the laboratory in the development and validation of three clinical solid tumour and liquid biopsy panel assays. Throughout her career, Dr. McConechy has focused on cancer research with a passion for using genomics technology to improve diagnosis and personalized treatment options for all cancer patients.
Dr. McConechy is currently the Group Leader, Staff Scientist II at Canada’s Michael Smith Genome Sciences Centre (GSC) leading the Clinical Informatics research team. Our team is responsible for analyzing, interpreting and reporting whole genome and transcriptome sequencing results for the Personalized Oncogenomics (POG) Program. We collaborate closely with various groups involved in POG including clinicians, pathologists and scientists to improve our understanding of cancer genomes.
