Projects
Viruses are recognized drivers of ~10% of cancers. Signe’s research surrounds investigating how oncogenic viruses (i.e. viruses that drive cancer) disrupt the host's genome and epigenome as part of cancer pathophysiology. As part of this project, Signe has characterized a complex form of structural variation called extrachromosomal DNA (ecDNA) across advanced cancers and in cervical cancer, the latter of which is driven by human papillomavirus (HPV). Signe’s current work is in cervical cancer as well as head and neck cancer.
